Maruti S-Presso Review 2019-2020 – Price in India, Specs, Mileage, Specs

The Maruti S-Presso Review made its debut in the market and its prices start at Rs. 3.69 lakh ex-showroom, becoming the smallest crossover to be outfitted with the MSIL stable. Named after a short shot of the Italian coffee, the S-Presso is a small, entry-level crossover that prefers the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-Go. Sitting on a wheelbase of 2,380mm and measuring (LxWxH) 3,665 x 1,520 x 1,564mm, the S-Presso is bigger in all the dimensions than the Alto K10 and marginally it is smaller than the Renault Kwid.  The Ex-showroom price of Maruti S-Presso is between Rs. 3.69 to 4.91 lakh.

Maruti S-Presso Review

According to the Maruti Suzuki, with the new S-Presso, they have brewed a new segment which is the Mini SUV. Maruti S-Presso Review is inspired by the Future-S Concept that was shown at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo and it has a strong visual connection with form, design and detailing of the Vitara Brezza. The cabin features a big circular bezel on a la Mini Copper, and in its center is the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment available in the top trims.

In terms of trims, the S-Presso presents itself in four trim levels that is Std, VXi, LXi, VXi (AMT), VXi +. Key features for the S-Presso include the aforementioned infotainment system compatible with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front power windows, keyless entry and go, steering mounted audio controls, and a multi-info display in the instrumentation. Below in this article, we are going to share the complete information regarding the features of the Maruti S-Presso. So now, let’s take a look below to know more about its features.

Styling

With the small SUV body-style vehicle, still, it is a rare and novelty. But if the S-Presso is as successful as we think it will be, it could be the first of many entry-level mini SUVs. The tall S-Presso has an elevated and it has a high and straight front and dual split bumpers (the top part is body-colored on the VXi) both front and rear.

The taillights give the appearance of width by spreading into the federation and are positioned above the ground to emphasize the S-Presso’s mounting stance. The sides are flat with the prominent square-shaped wheel arches and the side body cladding with the raised door seals and high ground clearance (180 mm unladen), ensuring that the S-Presso features a bona fide SUV design elements.

Although the styling is probably completely SUV, the ratio is not so small and the S-Presso does not have that many looks effective appearance for the SUV. It is as someone is trying to get up to match the naturally tall basketball legend Shawn Bradley, to wear high heel shoes. It may give you height, but not stature.

While S-Press driving near the Jodhpur, it generated a lot of interest and triggered many conversations with the locals. More than a few people came to me and they inquired if it was a new little Mahindra. Yes, the styling might look similar to the S-Presso to some Mahindra SUVs, and some thought it was a new mini version of the Brezza. After talking to these locals, who were very enthusiastic regarding it, we think S-Presso is sure to do well in the rural parts of India and Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

The high-end variants of the Maruti S-Presso have 14-inch wheels, there is plenty of free space between the tyres and wheel arches and without the width of the proportions to match the high stance, making the S-Presso appear ambiguous, especially when it viewed from the behind. Actually, the S-Presso stands out on the stilts and it will look great if it is fitted and lowered with the fitter wheels and tyres.

Interiors

About the passenger compartment, the two most special things are space and dash. S-Presso is just 3565 mm long, 1520 mm wide and 1564 mm long. Generally, most of the vehicles are wider than they are tall, but this is not the case with the S-Presso. And despite the overall small dimensions and small footprint, designers have used height and their skills to create admirable rooms. As expected, the headroom is undoubtedly the best, but the legroom and shoulder room, both the front and rear are quite good, as the boot space.

The most important thing that should be noted about the dashboard is that the area just in front of the steering wheel is empty, and the instrument cluster is located in the center of the dash.

Two body-colored (in VXi variants) semi-circle garnish rings that are almost steering-shaped and attracting your attention while putting a slightly distracting reflection on the windscreen. These rings are clearly inspired by the Mini’s dashboard and the round a/c vents at the dash’s extreme ends are also body-colored rings that complement the center.

The digital instrument cluster is simple to read, but we are not quite sure how the people would react to it instead of being in the center. And it has only one speedo and no rpm meter. The center console of it is trendy and visually well-liked. All the controls are easy to access and operate and the front power window buttons are placed on each side of the hazardous light switch which is just below the digital display, but there are no power windows at the rear.

High seating and upright A-pillars give a very good view of the outside, with the bonnet ends also visible. But the steering, which is not height-adjustable, may feel a little less set for some taller drivers.

The high stance makes simplicity and progresses easy and the S-Presso has an acceptable amount of cavities and storage locations. The cavity above the glove box is well shaped and is an ideal place for your cell-phone, sunglasses, and more. There are door pockets with the bottle holders at the front, though none at the back. The front and back door armrests have a small cavity.

The trim and seat fabric is good and the quality of the materials and fit and finish are honestly above the expectations. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso provides the first of its class steering mounted audio and voice control and it has a graphic user interface as well, which is compatible with the Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and others SmartPlay Studio Apps.

Built on Suzuki’s 5th Generation HEARTECT platform, the S-Presso meets all the biggest Indian crash safety regulation and it is equipped with dual airbags, seat belts with the pre-tensioner, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder, high-speed warning alert, and reverse parking sensors, etc.

But it has kept a certain part like the LED DRLs and alloy wheels as the dealer fitments, to make the price of the sticker more attractive. Although not any fog lights are available, the DRLs are surprisingly bright, but may not be a replacement for the fog light.

Engine and Transmission

The Maruti S-Presso is powered by 1.0-litre petrol, K10B engine, now also a BS6 compliant. It produces the torque of 68 PS and 90 Nm and comes with an S-Presso manual gearbox or Maruti’s AGS (auto gear shift) option as well. Like most Maruti gearboxes, the manual has a light and user-friendly shifter and is quick to respond when downshifting the AGS.

Push the pedal to the floor and the AGS drops not only one, but also two gears if necessary, to give you quick acceleration. But the uplift through well-timed, gets your head shaking and you can actually feel the time lapse between the gearshifts, making you wish they were smoother and faster.

Driving Impression

The S-Preso is slightly engine energetic and happy. But like many smaller engines, it is also a bit vocal, especially when it is rewarded. Although we were not able to do our proper fuel efficiency tests, the claimed mileage of 21.4 and 21.7 kmpl (for the VXi with larger wheels and tires) appears to be quite satisfactory. The steering is light and the agile S-Presso also has one of the smallest turn circles of just 4.5 meters.

Our test drive route from Jodhpur to Khimsar is well-paved and the massive traffic-free highway is more or less straight, and once had the opportunity to push the little Maruti S-Preso Review to its limits. I found that braking is really impressive and it is remarkable how stable the S-Preso is when you apply really hard brakes or come to an emergency halt.

A high sprinkler vehicle does not have the line you expected or any huge diving transfer. But the light feels fuzzy at steering speed and thanks to ground clearance, not only is the CG (center of gravity) high but it also gets a lot of air under the S-Presso, making it feel a bit unstable in speed.

It’s not disappointing or anything, but you definitely notice this floatiness. While it is appropriate for the Maruti-S-Preso, it is not the kind of vehicle you drive flat-out. It is just that the test-drive route was such that no one could resist it.
